Here’s everything you need to know about claiming tax relief on the cost of home care services in Ireland, helping you save while ensuring your loved ones receive the support they need.

Can I claim Income Tax Relief?

Yes. Income tax relief is available to Bluebird Care Customers or their relatives at their top rate of tax, subject to conditions (contact www.revenue.ie for further information). You can receive tax relief of up to 40% of the cost of Bluebird Care Services.

It is possible to claim income tax relief as part of your tax credits, thereby receiving this benefit as part of your weekly or monthly salary.

 Important: Any changes in circumstances must be reported to Revenue www.revenue.ie


Can more than one person contribute to the cost of Bluebird Care Services?

Yes, more than one person can contribute.


Can more than one person claim Income Tax Relief?

Yes, when more than one person is paying the costs, the Income Tax Relief may be divided between the contributors pro-rata to their contributions.


Who can claim?

You, your spouse or a relative. “A relative” includes relation by marriage and also a person for whom the claimant is, or was, the legal guardian.


How do I claim?

Complete form HK1 “Claim for an allowance for employing a Carer/Personal Assistant” and submit to the Inspector of Taxes in your local area.

This form is attached to the IT 47 “Employed Person Taking Care of an Incapacitated Individual”. Individuals need to satisfy themselves on their ability to claim tax relief.

Do I pay VAT on Bluebird Care Services?

No. The services offered by Bluebird Care are VAT exempt.
